Member of the Science Advisory Committee

(Laurea, Rome University “La Sapienza”, M.Phil. and Ph.D. Warwick, M.A. Oxford) is Prof. of philosophy at the University of Hertfordshire, where he holds the Research Chair in Philosophy of Information, and Fellow of St Cross College, University of Oxford. He is the founder and director of the IEG, Oxford University Information Ethics research Group, and of the GPI, the University of Hertfordshire research Group in Philosophy of Information. In 2006, he was elected President of IACAP (International Association for Computing And Philosophy). He is the first philosopher to have been elected Gauss Professor by the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. In 2009, the American Philosophical Association awarded him the Barwise Prize, in recognition of his research on the philosophy of information. Floridi is best known as the founder of two major areas of research: information ethics and the philosophy of information. His work is widespread and has been translated to many languages.
