Born in Hubei, China, Zong-Rong Li was awarded with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Computer Science and Technology, both at the Wuhan University (China); a Ph.D. in System Science at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He was visiting scholar in the Medical Informatics Group, University of Missouri-Columbia (USA) and post-doctoral researcher in the department of philosophy at McGill University, Montreal (Canada). Currently professor and vice-Director of the Social Information Science Institute at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China), has also been lecturer in Mathematics and Computer Science at the Zhushan Norm School, Wuhan University, Hubei Medical School and Hubei University.

With a research focus on Medical informatics, theoretical informatics, Social informatics, Foundations of Information Science and philosophy of information, Prof. Li is member of several scientific organizations in the field, coordinates among other projects a Research on the basis of Information Science (supported by Beijin University), is vice Chief Editor of the monthly journal Medical Informatics and member at several scientific organisations. Prof. Li has promoted relevant scientific gathers and currently the 4th International Conference on the Foundations of Information Science (2010 FIS).
